NY City Blog

I love trunk shows.  I don’t care if they are big and grand at a store like Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills; or in a more intimate setting like a home on the Upper East Side in NYC.  No matter the local, it is really fun to have a chance to interact with clients and help the fashion seeker choose the right pair of jeans while nibbling on a sugar cookie and sipping something festive.  This past Saturday afternoon, Angelique and I joined Melanie Charlton Fascitelli, Sarah Howard, Natalie Leeds Leventhal,  and Di Petroff at Melanie’s cozy home to welcome friends to a holiday shopping event.  We set up stacks of jeans in a nook of the living room and an extra bedroom became a make-shift dressing room.  Once again, everyone gravitated toward the stretch velvet Nadja which continues to be one of our most popular styles.  I was happy that the NYC ladies really loved the Angelique in oxblood, a color that truly does match everything.  Many ladies bought the same style in more than one color like our Ali cargo which is in the most comfortable fabric and manages to look both relaxed and sophisticated.  With our comfortable fabrics and sophisticated styling, Decades Denim for Holiday offers our signature 11 style trousseau of essential wardrobe staples that are perfect for building an ensemble.  Truly everything looks great with a pair of jeans (a tee-shirt/blazer/cardi/blouse).  Our jeans will enhance what you are wearing on top without distracting from your lewk.  We knew it was a good sign when several women went on to other engagements on Saturday in their just-purchased Decades Denim.  We are planning more trunk shows at stores and homes throughout 2011 so don’t be surprised if we turn up in your living room sometime soon!

Saks Fifth Avenue Launch

Written by Cameron Silver Tuesday, 14 December 2010 20:16

Last night in Beverly Hills, we had our Decades Denim retail launch at Saks Fifth Avenue on the Third Floor in between the  Dolce & Gabanna and Chanel in-store boutiques.  I have always imagined the Decades Denim client as being the type of fashionista who wears her jeans with a mix of high and low priced items and she was in full force last night!  Friends like Molly Sims and Tracee Ellis Ross were joined by some of the best dressed women of my native city all decked out in Balmain jackets, vintage furs, and major bling  and  mixed up with their affordable Decades Denim.  Within the span of two hours, styles like the Nadja (our stretch velvet skinny), the Angelique (our pocket-less skinny) and the Marilyn (our cropped cigarette which is highly coveted winter white chic) had sold out.  I loved finding the right jean for each client and their excitement to be rocking Decades Denim.  The jeans fit great and it seems like every woman who came last night had a perfect butt, but this is Los Angeles and we are fit!

Next stop is NYC on Saturday for another Decades Denim trunk show so I am ready to play dress up with the East Coast contingent who will style their Decades Denim in their own distinctive style.  Hope to see you there!

In The Beginning

I opened the vintage couture boutique Decades in 1997 on Melrose Avenue. From the very first day, I often told a celebrity client or style-setter that she should consider wearing her latest collectible purchased from me with a pair of jeans. It was a 1960s Pucci print velvet jacket with a pair of jeans; or a 1970s Yves Saint Laurent silk bow-front blouse with a pair of jeans; or a 1980s sharp-shouldered Thierry Mugler jacket – always with a pair of jeans. The caveat was that I didn’t have any jeans to show my future fashion icon clients. Jeans had become an excuse; the easy-way-out, and had become so branded with logos or overly distressed and sloppy with distracting whiskers, holes, or unflattering washes that denim no longer enhanced your wardrobe. Something needed to be done. And that is how Decades Denim was born.

When denim became a wardrobe staple of the stylish set in the 1970s, it was glamorous. People wore indigo denim to Studio 54 for a night of dancing. They wore white denim for a stroll on the island of Capri and looked elegant, yet casual. Denim dressed you up and that’s what Decades Denim is about. I’ve dressed many of the great 21st century icons for their red carpet moments and Decades Denim offers a debut collection of 11 essential styles that can take you from 9 to 5, as well as through an evening on the town through our Denim Trousseau. I may be the purveyor of the utmost luxurious clothing and accessories, but I have always believed in the democratization of glamour and style. Decades Denim offers a collection of sophisticated styles at a super attractive price point that feels and looks so chic and inspired by the amazing women I dress and undress at Decades. My brain is a virtual encyclopedia of memorable fashion images and our inspiration boards like the ones pictured above help define the Decades Denim woman. With my friend, business partner, and muse Angelique Soave, we hope you will get excited to dress up your denim and walk every street like you are on a red carpet. After all, you never know where the paparazzi are hiding and in Decades Denim you will always be ready for your close up!
